Meet Mary
Hi, my name is Mary, and I’m the owner and founder of Little Ducklings Childcare and Preschool.
I’ve been a licensed foster parent in Kitsap County for eight years. I’ve always had a passion for helping children, and I couldn’t think of a better way to do it than to give them a safe, loving home during one of the hardest times in their lives. I’ve had the honor of being “mom” to many children, of all ages.
About seven years ago, I realized just how badly our community needed childcare — and how few places accepted state pay to support foster children and their families. I went to an orientation for childcare providers, and I was hooked. I dove right in and started planning a preschool on my farm. What better combination than kids and animals?
The school took off quickly, and I was in heaven watching the children experience farm life. But I was reminded daily that the need in our community was still there, so I began planning a second location to offer full-day care. I spent hours, days, weeks, and months researching, learning, and building the vision in my head — and I was lucky enough to bring it to life at our Poulsbo center.
I have three beautiful children who keep me on my toes, and when I’m not at Little Ducklings you’ll usually find me riding horses or spending time with my family (my mom is my best friend). I’m outgoing, and I love telling stories that make people laugh.
Above all, I take pride in creating a family environment — and in caring for every child here as if they were my own.

Bio
My name is Amber Schmidt, and family has always been at the center of my life. I am the proud mother of three wonderful daughters, Aubrie, Rylee, and Lilly, who continue to inspire me every day. One of the most exciting chapters of my life is just around the corner, as I prepare to become a grandmother for the first time in August. The thought of welcoming a new baby into our family fills my heart with joy and excitement.
I have been married to my amazing husband, Chris, for 25 years. Throughout our marriage, we have built a life centered on love, support, and family. Chris has been my biggest supporter through every challenge and accomplishment, and I am grateful for the strong partnership we share.
Education and caring for children have become an important part of who I am. I am currently finishing my associate degree in Early Childhood Education, a goal I have worked hard to achieve. My passion for helping children grow and learn led me to begin working in childcare five years ago. Over time, I discovered how much I truly enjoy creating safe, loving, and nurturing environments where children can thrive.
For the past two years, I have worked as a childcare director, a role that has helped me grow both professionally and personally. Being a director has taught me leadership, patience, and the importance of building strong relationships with children, families, and staff. I take pride in supporting children during some of the most important developmental years of their lives.
My life has been shaped by love, family, education, and dedication to caring for others. Whether I am supporting my own family or helping children learn and grow, I strive to make a positive difference every day. I look forward to continuing my journey in early childhood education while embracing the exciting new role of grandmother.
